LUC Financial Support Programme

Leiden University College (LUC) offers financial support to a limited number of students who may otherwise not be able to attend. Both enrolled students and future students of LUC can request financial support. The programme is described as scholarship type “Study” and is offered by Leiden University College (LUC) within the faculty “Governance and Global Affairs”.

The programme is for applicants and current students of Leiden University College (LUC) who may otherwise not be able to attend without financial support. The target group listed is “Bachelor”. The nationality field includes “All nationalities”.

Selection is based on the documented financial situation, demonstrated attitude to meeting costs, and motivation. Funds are allocated in a priority order: current LUC students; new students applying during the early bird round; and new students applying during the regular round, who are waitlisted and only awarded if funds remain. Financial support is not guaranteed due to limited availability.

Recipients receive support in principle for a period of 3 academic years, reviewed annually. Renewal is at the discretion of LUC and is not guaranteed, and students must demonstrate that their financial situation still merits the support. Financial support can be awarded for a maximum of 3 academic years (6 semesters); if studies extend beyond 3 academic years, support is not available during the extension period. Recipients must inform LUC of changes to financial situation and academic progress as soon as they occur, and act as ambassadors for LUC when appropriate.

• Target group: Bachelor.Nationality: All nationalities.For applicants and current students of Leiden University College (LUC) who may otherwise not be able to attend without financial support.Prospective students: must have already submitted an application for admission to LUC when applying for the scholarship.Prospective students: during the scholarship selection period (March to May), must have already been (conditionally) admitted to LUC.Current LUC students: must be making good academic progress without significant or non-substantiated credit shortages when applying for the scholarship.Current LUC students: must not previously have obtained a Bachelor or Master degree.Current LUC students: must be able to provide documentary evidence that they are unable to study at LUC without financial support.Financial need evidence: ability to provide documentary evidence of inability to study at LUC without financial support.Additional limitation: due to limited availability of funds, financial support cannot be awarded to all candidates who meet the stated eligibility criteria.

• Financial support amount: between 1000 Euro and 3000 Euro per year (exact amount determined by LUC based on the applicant’s situation and amount of funds available).Support duration: in principle for a period of 3 academic years, reviewed on an annual basis.Maximum duration: financial support can be awarded for a maximum of 3 academic years (6 semesters).

1. Step 1: Before applying, carefully read the information on Criteria, required documents and conditions (in the downloads section).
2. Step 2 (Prospective students only): Before (preferably) 1 December, apply for admission to LUC via Leiden University’s online application portal (uSis).
3. Step 3 (Current students only): Before 1 March, notify LUC by sending an email to [email protected] to apply for financial support. Within approx. 5 working days, access to the online application portal (uSis) will be granted.
4. Step 4 (Prospective and current students): Before 15 March, log into uSis, go to your LUC application, click the ‘Scholarship’ tile, and indicate you want to apply for LUC financial support.
5. Step 5 (Upload and submit, prospective & current students not yet receiving support): Upload the following items (as described in the Criteria, required documents and conditions) and click submit: Motivation letter; Financial plan (using the provided template); Supporting documents.
6. Step 6 (Current students already receiving support, renewal): Before 15 March, log into uSis, click on ‘Application study programme’, open the LUC application, then click on ‘Scholarships’. Click ‘During Stay’ in the left-hand menu and request renewal by uploading: If financial situation has not changed: copy of the annual financial plan submitted with the last LUC financial support request. If financial situation has changed: new annual financial plan (using the template), new motivation letter, and any additional supporting documentation.
7. Step 7: Submit the application/renewal by the stated deadline; late or incomplete applications are not considered.
8. Step 8 (Selection and decision): March to April, the selection committee assesses applications based on documented financial situation, demonstrated attitude to meeting costs, and motivation. On 21 April, candidates are notified of the decision via uSis.
9. Step 9 (Acceptance): Recipients must accept the offered financial support within 2 weeks of being notified via uSis.
10. Step 10 (Processing and tuition fee adjustment): In July, LUC processes accepted offers. Awardees see their adjusted tuition fee amount in StudieLink; if the tuition fee was already paid, a refund of the amount covered by financial support is provided.
11. Step 11: The awarding of financial support is at the discretion of LUC, and decisions are final and may not be contested.
