PhD International Scholarships in Cyber Security and Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam

Erasmus University Rotterdam (Erasmus School of Law) offers three full-time PhD research positions on Cyber Security & Law, initiated by CLECS, Centre for the Law and Economics of Cyber Security, in collaboration with Ahold Delhaize and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. The PhD projects are part of the Erasmus Graduate School of Law and embedded in the LDE strategic alliance for the LDE Cyber Security programme, with focus on multidisciplinary research and education and partnerships with governments, businesses and knowledge institutions.

The three advertised projects are: (1) stimulation of cyber security information diffusion on a sector level with Ahold Delhaize; (2) optimal cyber security at the system level with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management; and (3) a theoretical and empirical framework of the law and economics of cyber security in close cooperation with Ahold Delhaize, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, and the LDE universities. The exact focus is determined by the PhD researchers in cooperation with supervisors.

Selection looks for candidates who hold a master’s degree in Law, Criminology, or another discipline relevant to the PhD position; demonstrate relevant scientific research skills (for example through academic publications or master thesis quality); and show affinity/knowledge of law and economics, behavioural science, and/or technical governance questions related to cyber security. Candidates must also have ambition, energy and flexibility, and be able to produce work of excellent quality.

Employment is a fixed-term contract with the position starting with a temporary employment contract consisting of an educational programme and individual research, followed by evaluation of research progress and an extension after a positive evaluation. Guidance is provided by thesis supervisors and a doctorate committee composed of senior researchers and one of the PhD coordinators of the Erasmus Graduate School of Law. The salary is €2,443 gross per month for a full-time 38-hour week during the first year, increasing annually up to €3,122 gross per month in the fourth year.
