University of Amsterdam Merit Scholarships for Masters Program

The Academic Medical Centre of the Universiteit van Amsterdam offers the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS) for outstanding non-EU/EEA students admitted to one of the (Master's) programmes of the Faculty of Medicine. The AMS is highly selective, and is funded by the Universiteit van Amsterdam.

The AMS eligibility is for applicants with a non-EU/EEA passport who have been (or will be) admitted to the (Master’s) programme of Medical Informatics at the AMC–UvA. It also requires that the applicant is not entitled to receive a Dutch study grant or loan, is not eligible for the reduced tuition fee rate for EEA students at UvA, and does not receive a full coverage scholarship for the same period of study.

Selection is based on limited scholarship availability and focuses on academic excellence and promise in the proposed field, supported by academic records, letters of recommendation, written work and/or publications, and the quality of the letter of motivation. Only applicants who have been admitted to the Master’s Medical Informatics programme can be awarded the scholarship.

The scholarship cannot be used as a (partial) tuition waiver, and applicants must still pay the full amount of tuition. The scholarship consists of €4,000 or a proportional amount if the programme starts in February. Scholarships are awarded for a specific academic year and cannot be transferred, with an extension in exceptional cases to a second year if at least 80% of the maximum number of credits is completed in the first year.

• you are not be entitled to receive a Dutch study grant or loan ("Studiefinanciering");
• you are not be eligible to pay the reduced tuition fee rate for EEA students at the UvA;
• you do not receive a full coverage scholarship for the same period of study as the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship;
• you have been (or will be) admitted to the (Master’s) programme of Medical Informatics at the AMC -UvA.

• does not act as a (partial) tuition waiver (applicant must pay the full amount of tuition).

1. Upload the required application materials to the International Office via the Digital Student Service Desk.
2. Upload a letter of motivation (maximum 500 words) explaining the reasons for choosing the Master’s programme of Medical Informatics (broader context, relevance for future career).
3. Upload a letter of recommendation by your dean, teacher or academic supervisor, confirming that you belong to the top 10% of your class.
4. Upload a description of your extracurricular activities (examples listed include student commissions, international experience, sports or music at a high level, or volunteer work).
5. Submit the application by the relevant deadline for the programme start (September start or February start).
6. Only serious applications will be taken into consideration.
7. Selection is carried out by AMC–UvA for the Master’s Medical Informatics in June and November; admitted applicants are notified before the end of November.
