Utrecht Sylff Scholarships Utrecht University (Partial Funding up to 25,000 USD)

The Utrecht Sylff Scholarship at Utrecht University is provided by the Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF). The programme aims to give exceptional students from University College Utrecht (UCU) and from the Bachelor's in Economics and Business Economics the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree at Utrecht University.

UCU students are eligible if they enrol in a MA programme in the Humanities, Social Sciences or Economics. Students from Economics and Business Economics are eligible if they enrol in a MA programme in Utrecht University School of Economics. The scholarship is described as highly selective and includes candidates with potential leadership qualities.

Candidates cannot apply directly; they are nominated by their Faculty. A selection committee ranks the nominations and submits them to the SYLFF organisation. SYLFF then awards selected students a grant for a specific master’s programme and starting date.

Selected students receive a scholarship for a maximum period of 12 months. The grant can be extended for two-year master’s programmes. The scholarship is intended to contribute significantly to costs of travel and living expenses while studying in Utrecht, and recipients must find additional funding to fully finance their study and stay.

• Be a student or recent graduate of one of the programmes mentioned above.
• Hold a non-Dutch passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (“Studiefinanciering”).
• Have been admitted to one of the international Master’s programmes of Utrecht University in the field of Humanities or Social Sciences (including Economics).
• Be able to comply with the conditions to obtain a Dutch residence permit (if applicable).

• Scholarship amount: at least 25,000 USD per year for non-EU students, variable.
• Scholarship amount: at least 10,000 USD per year for EU students, variable.
• Intended contribution towards costs of travel and living expenses while studying in Utrecht.
• Selected students receive funding for a maximum period of 12 months.
• Possible extension of the grant for two-year master’s programmes.
• Additional funding is required to fully finance study and stay.
