Utrecht University NL Scholarship , Netherlands (Master’s Scholarship for International Students)

Utrecht University’s NL Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. It is intended for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who wish to study for a master’s degree in the Netherlands.

The award is for applicants who are studying for a master’s degree at Utrecht University and have applied for an international master’s programme with a start date of 1 September. Not all programmes participate, so applicants are directed to check the ‘Tuition fees and financial support’ information on the master’s programme page to confirm the NL Scholarship is listed.

Selection is based on academic background as demonstrated in the master’s programme application, motivation explaining the relevance of time in the Netherlands and at Utrecht University to future goals, and the quality and feasibility of the financial plan. Applicants must demonstrate they can cover remaining costs by completing the Statement of Financial Resources, noting scholarships cover only part of the total costs.

• Must be an international student from outside the European Economic Area (EEA = the EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) for a master’s degree in the Netherlands.Must not hold an EU/EEA passport and must not be eligible for support under the Dutch study grant and loan system.Must not be eligible for statutory tuition fees.Must never have been enrolled at an educational institution in the Netherlands; if only an exchange programme in the Netherlands was taken part in, this does not make you ineligible.Must have applied for an international master’s programme at Utrecht University with a start date of 1 September 2026.Only programmes that participate are eligible; applicants must check whether the intended master’s programme lists the NL Scholarship as an option.

• Scholarship amount: €5,000, €10,000, or €15,000.Payment timing: received in the first year of studies, including for programmes that are two years.

1. Submit an application for an NL Scholarship–eligible MA programme.Log in to your OSIRIS Online Application account.Under your dashboard, locate “NL Scholarship.”Click “View/Edit” for the NL Scholarship linked to your chosen programme.Locate the NL Scholarship application form.Answer all required questions and submit your application.
