Master of Science Thesis Based Phd

The Master of Science (Thesis-Based) at King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals is a research-focused degree designed to develop strong academic knowledge and research experience. Students conduct original research under faculty supervision, culminating in a thesis that must be defended and may be published. It is intended for students planning to pursue a PhD or academic careers, strengthening research skills and employability. The PhD program is research-intensive, combining advanced coursework with a thesis that presents original findings contributing new knowledge. It suits those aiming for advanced research or academic roles. A Direct-to-PhD option is also available for applicants with a bachelor's degree, allowing them to start doctoral studies directly.

• Master of Science: Four-year Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science with relevant major or background; GPA 3.00 or higher for scholarship applicants, 2.50 or higher for non-scholarship applicants
• PhD: M.S. degree in engineering or science with relevant major or background; minimum GPA 3.00 on a 4.00 scale in B.S. and M.S.
• PhD Direct Entry: Four-year Bachelor’s degree with minimum GPA 3.00 on a 4.00 scale
• Two letters of recommendation preferred from faculty
• Satisfactory fulfillment of departmental or university admission requirements

• Master of Science: TOEFL 520 (PBT), 190 (CBT), or 70 (IBT); IELTS minimum 6.0; Duolingo minimum 105
• PhD: TOEFL 550 (PBT), 213 (CBT), or 80 (IBT); IELTS minimum 6.5; Duolingo minimum 120
• PhD Direct Entry: same as PhD
• Requirements waived for KFUPM graduates and graduates from English-speaking countries (USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand)
