The master’s degree in Polymers and Bioplastics offers specialized scientific and technological training in polymers and bioplastics, covering both industrial and research perspectives. It focuses on production, transformation, and innovation, and prepares students for work in research, technology, and industrial centers focused on polymer materials development.

Teaching is scheduled in the afternoon and delivered in person at the Barcelona School of Engineering (EEBE). The curriculum is organized into two semesters and includes modules such as Experimentation and Instrumentation, Polymer Physics, Advanced Materials, Nanotechnology, Polymer Processing and Coating Technologies, Biotechnological Processes, Polymerization Chemistry, Biopolymers and Bioplastics, Polymer Characterization, and a Master’s Final Project.

To access the master, the required English level is B2 accredited at the time of formalizing enrollment.

The admission profile requested corresponds to people with one of the following degrees:

• Engineering or a degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Physics Engineering.
• Licentiate or a degree in Chemistry, Biotechnology or Pharmacy.

Training complements are required depending on the prior degree. For degrees such as Biology, Food Science and Technology, Food Engineering, Industrial Technologies or Environmental Engineering, it is necessary to take 4 credits of Fundamentos de Polímeros. For other degrees, the academic committee must assess the need to include up to a maximum of 12 ECTS of prior training credits to level capabilities, knowledge, and aptitudes.

The training complements are assigned subjects offered in the bachelor’s degrees of the same center. The number of credits and subjects vary depending on the student profile and prior academic competencies. These training complements, while they are bachelor’s subjects, are considered master’s credits for public tuition purposes, and they can be taken in parallel with the master.

• Development of polymers: research and development of new polymer materials or improvement of existing ones for specific applications.
• Plastic processing engineering: optimization of manufacturing and transformation processes.
• Specialist quality control staff: verification of compliance with current standards and regulations.
• Consultancy in polymers and bioplastics: advising companies on material choice, production processes, or sustainability strategies.
• Polymer and bioplastics research staff, in public centers or in companies’ R&D departments.
• Technical plastic recycling staff: managing collection, separation, and recycling of plastic products.
