The University of Gothenburg’s Master of Fine Arts in Opera is for students with a bachelor’s degree in opera who want to deepen their professional skills. The programme aims to deepen and refine artistry as a singer and opera performer through coaching, mentorship, and observing and performing in opera productions. You collaborate with Swedish opera houses and take part in a full scale opera production at the Academy of Music and Drama or in an opera house.

The programme runs with a study pace of 100% and uses a campus study form. It consists of four main elements: Vocal Performance, Stage Performance, Internship, and Independent Work: Degree Project. Vocal Performance includes individual singing lessons, role studies, master classes, and language coaching, plus individual coaching and mentoring. Stage Performance includes work with an opera director and can include physical exercise and dance. During Independent Work, you complete a degree project in parallel with your other courses.

Bachelor degree of fine arts in opera or equivalent, as well as knowledge and skills in music and acting that are assessed at the admission test and are the basis for selection. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
