SI Scholarship for Global Professionals

The Swedish Institute awards academic scholarships for master’s studies in Sweden for global professionals from a selection of countries. The stated purpose is to support sustainable development and enable applicants to strengthen their ability to lead societal change. The scholarship supports full-time master’s studies at Swedish universities across a wide range of English-taught programmes.

The scholarship is open to citizens of eligible countries listed for the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals. It covers eligible English-taught master’s programmes in fields including Governance, Public Health, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

SI states the scholarship is competitive and refers applicants to the SI selection process under “How to Apply – SI Screening and Evaluation” once the call for applications is open. Eligibility also includes applying for an eligible master’s programme and meeting work and leadership experience requirements.

Support includes full tuition fee coverage paid directly by SI to the Swedish university each semester, a monthly allowance of SEK 12,000 during the study period, and a travel grant of SEK 15,000 (with a reduced amount for scholars from specified countries). SI also includes membership in the SI Network for Global Professionals. After the scholarship period ends, holders become members of the Sweden Alumni Network.

• Level: Master’s
• Citizenship: must be a citizen of one of the 34 eligible countries listed (and does not need to reside in that country at the time of the application).
• Application target: must apply for a master’s programme that is eligible for the SI scholarship.
• University admissions: must be liable to pay tuition fees at Swedish universities and follow the steps of University Admissions and be admitted to one of the eligible master’s programmes on the day of admissions announcements.
• Work experience: must have demonstrated work experience; applicants do not have to be employed at the time of application.
• Work experience proof: must be able to prove work experience using SI template forms available during the application period.
• Work experience hours/prior work rules: applicants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine must provide proof of work experience (no number-of-hours requirement stated); applicants from the listed other countries must have at least 3,000 hours of work experience prior to February 2026, accumulated from a maximum of three employers.
• Leadership experience: must have demonstrated leadership experience from a current or previous employer, or from civil society engagement.
• Dual citizenship rule: if dual citizenships are both eligible, applicants should choose only one citizenship when applying; using dual citizenship to submit more than one application results in disqualification of all applications.
• Work leave-of-absence: if currently employed, applicants are responsible for ensuring they will be granted leave of absence and released from work in time for the beginning of studies; SI will not intervene.

• Full tuition fee coverage (fee paid directly by SI to the Swedish university each semester)
• Monthly allowance: SEK 12,000 to cover living expenses throughout the study period
• Travel grant: SEK 15,000 (SEK 10,000 for scholars from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine); one-time payment; does not apply for students already living in Sweden
• Membership in the SI Network for Global Professionals (NFGP)
• After the scholarship period ends: membership in the Sweden Alumni Network for continued networking and professional development

1. Apply to Swedish master’s programmes through University Admissions (application window: 16 October 2025 to 15 January 2026).
2. After SI publishes SI scholarship application documents and eligible master programmes on the page (published mid-November 2025), prepare an SI scholarship application using the SI documents and requirements.
3. Submit the SI Scholarship application via the application portal during the portal opening window (9-25 February 2026); the portal closes at 14:59 CET on the final day.
4. Follow the University admissions and SI scholarship timelines for admissions announcement (26 March 2026) and SI scholarship announcement (23 April 2026).
