University of Basel Biozentrum PhD Fellowships Program

University of Basel’s Biozentrum PhD Fellowships are offered by the Biozentrum International PhD Program to support candidates pursuing research in life sciences. The program emphasizes a rotation-based choice of research group and includes other incentives for fellows. The Biozentrum frames these fellowships as independent of a specific research group or project.

The fellowships are aimed at talented, ambitious and highly motivated young scientists from all over the world. They cover conducting research in at least two different labs at the Biozentrum through rotations, followed by selection of the research group for the PhD thesis with approval of the respective group leader.

Selection is described as competitive, with a maximum of 10 successful candidates per year. Fellows conduct rotations in at least two different labs at the Biozentrum before deciding on the research group for the PhD thesis, pending group leader approval.

The fellowship provides full funding for the entire PhD. The program also lists annual incentives (which may change annually) including an allowance for meetings/books/computer and an annual study trip, plus support activities and financial support for travel to postdoctoral interviews at the end of the PhD thesis. Fellows are automatically part of the Biozentrum International PhD Program.
