Bachelor of Arts with Education

The Bachelor of Arts with Education (code GEA) combines Humanities and Education on equal footing. Graduates are expected to design schemes of work and lesson plans for secondary schools, conduct actual teaching to secondary school students, and manage secondary schools using administrative and managerial skills. The programme also prepares students to practice in professions related to the various fields in the humanities and to undertake post-graduate training in educational, humanities, and managerial disciplines.

Study is full-time with lectures, practical and school practice, continuous assessment assignments or tests, semester examinations, and a research paper or dissertation presented in the second semester of the third year. Teaching runs on weekday and weekend, and it is blended with face-to-face and online delivery. School practice takes place during recess terms, with each session lasting between 8 and 10 weeks.

Principal passes in any two of the following subjects: Economics, Geography, Religious Education, History, Kiswahili and Literature in English obtained at the same sitting.

For English-Literature Double Main, a candidate should have a Principal Pass in Literature in English and a Principal Pass in any other A Level subject, while for Kiswahili Double Main, a Principal Pass in Kiswahili and in any other A Level subject is required.

Applications for admission to the Programme shall be based on the following entry schemes:
a). Direct entry
Holders of the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) who will also have obtained two Principal Passes in any two of the subjects of Economics, Geography, Religious Education, History, Literature in English, Kiswahili, Entrepreneurship in the Advanced Level Certificate of Education (UACE) at the same sitting or its equivalent. For English-Literature Double Main, a candidate should have a Principal Pass in Literature in English and a Principal Pass in any other A Level subject, while for Kiswahili Double Main, a Principal Pass in Kiswahili and in any other A Level subject is required.
b). Diploma entry scheme
Holders of at least a credit diploma in Secondary Education with relevant Humanities teaching subjects or its equivalent
c). Mature age entry
Holders of the Mature Age Entry Certificate in relevant subjects obtained not more than two years ago.
d). Higher Education Access Certificate
Holders of the Higher Education Access Certificate in relevant Humanities-related academic disciplines.
