Accounting and Banking MSc

The University of Wales, Bangor’s Accounting and Banking MSc develops advanced knowledge of accounting and banking for decision-making inside and outside organisations. Students study organisations, including financial institutions, how accounting supports internal and external users, and the changing external context in which organisations operate. The course includes compulsory modules such as Accounting Theory, International Banking, Research Methods, Financial Analysis, Advanced Financial Reporting and Regulation, and Bank Financial Management, plus optional modules including Advanced Audit and Assurance, Credit Risk Analytics, Investment Strategy & Portfolio Management, and Management Accounting.

The MSc has a duration of 1 year and is delivered full time in Bangor. January-intake taught modules run in the periods January to June and September to January for 120 credits, and the dissertation (or equivalent) is valued at 60 credits and runs in June to September. September-intake taught modules run from September to June for 120 credits, with the dissertation (or equivalent) valued at 60 credits in June to September. Students undertaking the CFA specialist pathway take Financial Research & CFA Series during the summer period and follow research seminars and CFA training with assessments.

Candidates should have a good first degree of 2(ii) or higher or equivalent from a university or another approved degree-awarding body. Non-graduate qualifications deemed to be of a satisfactory standard for the purpose of postgraduate admission may also be considered. Work experience is desirable.

Prior study of accounting (as part of the first degree, for example) or experience of working within the field of accounting is essential.
