The MSc Banking and Finance (Online) at SOAS explores global banking systems, financial markets and regulation. The course combines advanced financial theory with real-world data analysis, policy insight, and technology-enabled decision-making. You study bank performance, financial stability, regulation, and digital innovation, including the responsible use of AI.
SOAS offers the programme as a part-time degree with two routes. You can study an accelerated two-year path or a three-year path, supported by lectures, workshops, case-based learning, and online study. The structure includes modules such as Banking and Financial Management, Government Policy, Banking, and Financial Markets, and Advanced Skills in Research Design, with a capstone dissertation or applied project.
The capstone module supports an independent research project or applied study with structured supervision, online resources, and formative feedback. Students complete either an 8,000-word dissertation or an 8,000-word equivalent professional project, preparing them to interpret complex financial change, manage risk, and shape impact across banking, finance, consulting and policy worldwide.
