LLM International Commercial and Economic Law

The LLM International Commercial and Economic Law at SOAS covers international economic and commercial practice through transnational, comparative, and socio-legal perspectives. Students examine how law regulates global markets, corporate power, and cross-border economic activity, including investment, trade, finance, and dispute resolution. The programme emphasizes international arbitration and transnational dispute settlement, using theoretical training alongside practical, skills-based learning.

Students take modules worth a total of 180 credits. The programme includes a 60-credit dissertation (LLM Dissertation in Law) and 120 credits of taught modules, each worth either 15 or 30 credits. Students who want a specialised LLM must take at least 60 credits from the International Commercial and Economic Law specialisation options, with the dissertation topic undertaken within that specialisation. Attendance is available full-time or part-time, with a September start.

A 2:1 degree in a relevant undergraduate degree.

If you have a lower degree classification, your application may be considered if you can present a strong case, either through relevant work experience, other legal qualifications, or a strong supporting statement. References are not required, but can help build a stronger application if you fall below the 2:1 requirement or have non-traditional qualifications.
