MSc Climate Change and Development Online

SOAS’s MSc Climate Change and Development (Online) focuses on low-carbon development, climate change impacts and adaptation, and research design. Students study how development models shape environmental change, then analyse low-carbon transitions through debates that include power, poverty, inequality, social justice, and sustainable development. The programme also covers how adaptation can affect development outcomes and how water and land relate to livelihoods, food security, and economies.

The MSc is available as a two-year accelerated part-time route or a three-year part-time route. The two-year route uses three modules in Year 1 and three modules in Year 2, including either a capstone dissertation or project. The three-year route takes two modules in Year 1 and two modules in each later year, with a capstone dissertation or project in Year 3. Assessment includes research-based activities, applied learning, and an independent 8,000-word dissertation or 8,000-word equivalent professional project.
