Agroforestry and Food Security Distance Learning MSc

The Agroforestry and Food Security (Distance Learning) MSc at University of Wales, Bangor provides a detailed understanding of agroforestry as part of a sustainable food production system, including its social and environmental components. It examines the environmental, economic and social aspects of agroforestry in the context of food security and the changing environment. It also studies agroforestry management practices and how they can improve resource-efficiency and sustainability, with a global perspective on food demand from limited land resources.

The taught component is 120 credits and consists of 15 credit modules. The dissertation component is 60 credits and involves an independent research project led by the student with support from an academic supervisor. Modules run in a blended format: lectures taught on campus are live streamed for distance learners. Applicants who do not study for the full MSc can take exit awards of Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits) or Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits).

The programme suits people with interests in the agri-food, farming, environmental, conservation, and agricultural sectors, and it covers both temperate and tropical contexts. University of Wales, Bangor states that this accredited programme provides partial fulfilment of Professional Membership Entry through the Institute of Chartered Foresters. It is designed to facilitate entry into agroforestry-related careers.

A 2(i) undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, e.g. Agriculture, Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Conservation Sciences, Sustainable Development, Geography or Biological Sciences. Alternatively, a first degree in an unrelated subject plus relevant practical experience may be accepted. Applicants are judged on their individual merits. Work experience and other factors are also considered. Students with degrees in forestry, agriculture, geography, biology, environmental studies, economics, law, social sciences, philosophy and modern languages have graduated from this course.

IELTS: 6.0 (with no element below 5.5) is required.
