University of St Andrews UK Global Fellowship

The University of St Andrews’ Global Fellows scheme is designed for applicants who are recognised as significant scholars in their field or emerging leaders who have made a contribution to original research extending the frontier of knowledge. Global Fellows are expected to hold an established academic position.

The scheme is aimed at candidates who have completed a PhD degree or equivalent and are based outside the UK, employed in a university, research institute or similar. Global Fellows are expected to engage online with students and staff and to participate in scholarly activities during the academic year, including activities in Academic Schools, Centres and Institutes.

Applications are reviewed by the relevant Schools, with final award decisions made centrally by a multidisciplinary selection committee at the University of St Andrews. Global Fellows can be expected to give a research seminar or similar during their visit, and the University provides support for tailored travel and visits; there is no buy-out for teaching at the home institution.

• Must be based outside the UK.
• Must be employed in a university, research institute or similar.
• Applicants must be able to hold an established academic position.
• Global Fellows are expected to engage online throughout the academic year.
• Candidates not available for a visit should consider applying in a future round.
• For applicants who would be otherwise unable to visit due to caring commitments or other similar responsibilities, a fully virtual Global Fellowship may be considered.
• A shorter visit may be arranged to support those unable to visit for an extended period.

• Tailored travel and visit support provided by the University’s Global Office.
• A stipend of £1000 per 28 day visit (or per day sum for shorter visits).
• Self-catered accommodation in a one bedroom apartment or equivalent.
• Return airfare in economy class, booked by the University.
• Airport transfers to and from St Andrews.
• Access to University IT and library facilities.
• Cannot offer a buy-out for teaching at the home institution.

1. Identify shared research interests and ensure alignment with the proposed host School.
2. While not mandatory, contact an appropriate University of St Andrews academic to discuss the proposed collaboration and the Global Fellowship application.
3. Send a completed Global Fellowship application form and your academic CV to [email protected] by 17:00 (GMT) on 2 March 2026.
4. Wait for acknowledgment email; acknowledgment emails will typically be sent within three working days.
