The PhD in Molecular Microbiology & Immunology (MMI) trains independent scientists to take leading roles in advancing understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms that drive infectious and immune diseases. Students focus on infectious and immunological diseases of public health importance through research guided by a thesis adviser.
Students perform thesis research in a laboratory of an MMI faculty member with a primary appointment in MMI, or in the laboratory of a JHU faculty member with a joint appointment in MMI who is designated as a trainer on an MMI training grant. Each student is assigned an MMI faculty member as an initial academic adviser to support early course selection and navigation of school and departmental policies. The thesis adviser is selected after completion of laboratory rotations.
