The Graduate Certificate for Dual Credit Teaching in English Literature and Language at St. Mary’s University is a fully online cohort program designed to help high school instructors earn graduate hours to teach dual credit English courses. Students select one course from each of these areas: Grammar, American Literature, International Literature, Digital Humanities, Literary Theory, and Pedagogical Development.
The certificate is an 18-credit-hour program that can be completed fully online within 12 months (on average). Courses may be virtual (synchronous) or online (asynchronous). Virtual courses are taken remotely in real time with a professor and classmates via Zoom on a scheduled class day and time. Online courses use pre-recorded lectures, video uploads, class chats, and individual meetings with a professor.
Interested applicants must complete the online application, respond to a short answer question and upload a copy of the highest degree-granting transcript (bachelor’s or master’s). Students will also need to submit a letter of recommendation. The GRE/GMAT is not required for admission to this certificate program.
