Masters Computer Science

The University of West Florida offers an online Master’s Degree in Computer Science that combines foundational topics with advanced study in algorithmic programming, parallel computing, systems and networks, artificial intelligence, and data analytics. Students also complete specialized subjects such as software development and research of computational methods, machine learning and AI for automated decision support, and efficient data processing and mining in a Hadoop cluster computing environment.

The program totals 30 credit hours, including 15 credit hours of core computer science topics. Degree planning includes a concentration in either software engineering or data analytics and nine credit hours of elective courses. The online format uses small class sizes to support individualized attention and interaction with research faculty, and it allows students to complete their studies on their schedule.

Candidates include students with an undergraduate degree in computer science, information technology, or another closely related area, current computer science professionals advancing in the field, and those seeking deeper understanding of advanced skills.

At a minimum, students are expected to have completed undergraduate mathematics and science courses as typically expected in an undergraduate science or engineering degree program. Students entering with a bachelor’s degree other than Computer Science must complete prerequisite foundational courses in computing and programming. Any foundational courses needed count toward the program’s 30 total credit hours as part of the 9 required elective credit hours.
