The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAIT) from Saint Mary’s College of California is an individualized, project-based graduate program for teachers. It focuses on deepening knowledge of how to teach a subject and enhancing pedagogical content knowledge. The MAIT is inquiry-based and is open to elementary, secondary, and special education teachers.
Courses are offered online. Credentialed teachers can complete the degree 100% online with 12 to 15 additional units, depending on where the credential was earned, and the program can be completed in as few as seven months; the program typically takes 11 months. The credentialed Catholic Educator Emphasis adds courses and a capstone project centered on Catholic education.
MAIT includes faculty mentorship, a collaborative cohort, and a Capstone Project. The program has 18 units of core courses plus additional requirements for the Catholic Educator Emphasis, including TRS courses. Admission is every summer term, with summer classes starting in late May and ending by early August.
