Master of Technology Mtech Degree in Machine Design

The Master of Technology (MTech) Degree in Machine Design at Harare Institute of Technology trains students to design, analyse, and develop machine designs and components. The programme also supports machine design research activities and the process of bringing new devices, technologies, and services to market. Students apply mechanical engineering design theory to identify and quantify machine elements, and they use computer-based techniques for analysis, design, and selection of machine components.

Teaching is organised across four semesters with taught courses, labs, seminars, and computer-aided work. Semester I includes Mechanical Behaviour of Engineering Materials, Optimal Design of Mechanical Elements, and a Kinematics and Dynamics Lab. Semester II adds Advanced Mechanics of Solids, Seminar, Computer Aided Engineering, Finite Element and Boundary Element Methods, and Applied Research Methods. Semester III includes Materials Testing, Computer Aided Testing, Analysis and Modelling Lab, and a Project with 30 credits. Semester IV continues the Project with 90 credits.
