The Yenching Academy of Peking University annually enrolls approximately 120 new students and provides a fellowship to all scholars. • International applicants whose native language is English, or have graduated from an English-taught degree program (undergraduate or above), are not required to provide an English proficiency test report.
• Applicants from China’s Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions (HMT) are required to provide an English proficiency test report, even if they have attended or graduated from an English-taught degree program.
• Without providing an English proficiency test report, candidates from these regions will need to take English as a Second Language after enrollment at Peking University.
• For applicants from the Chinese Mainland, an English proficiency test report is a compulsory application material.
• English proficiency tests must be taken after September 1, 2025.
• English proficiency test scores: the programme does not accept TOEFL MyBest Scores, TOEFL iBT Home Edition, IELTS Indicator test, IELTS Online, or IELTS One Skill Retake.
• English proficiency score submission: IELTS, TOEFL, and Cambridge tests must be sent directly from the organizations to Yenching Academy of Peking University; TOEFL requires institution code C488.
• All students and alumni of Partner Universities must apply through their home university’s internal pre-selection process before submitting an application to the Yenching Academy.

1. Create an account on Yenching Academy’s admissions portal and submit the application through the online application portal.
2. Complete and submit the completed online application form.
3. Submit a personal statement (750 words or less) in English.
4. Submit a Statement of Research Interest (maximum 1500 words, excluding citations) in English.
5. Submit a Curriculum Vitae.
6. Submit official transcript(s).
7. Submit Diploma(s) or Certificate(s) of Enrollment.
8. Arrange two academic letters of recommendation (Chinese or English) to be submitted; recommendation letters must be written by full professors or associate professors (or equivalent titles) and submitted by professors in the applicant’s intended field of study.
9. Provide English proficiency test scores that meet the stated requirements and submission method, unless eligible for the English proficiency test report waiver described for native English speakers or graduates of English-taught degree programmes.
10. If applying through a Partner University, complete the home university’s internal pre-selection process before submitting the application to the Yenching Academy.
11. For candidates from China’s Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions, complete a supplementary application through the Peking University Graduate Admissions website in addition to using the Yenching Academy application portal.
