Yenching Academy of Peking University China Scholarships

The Yenching Academy annually enrolls approximately 120 new students from both the Chinese Mainland and abroad to study, live, and learn together. The Yenching Academy provides a fellowship to all scholars that includes tuition fees, accommodation, a monthly stipend, one round-trip travel fare, and field study costs.

Applicants should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any field or be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program with the expectation of receiving their diploma in the intended enrollment year. Applicants must show strong interest in interdisciplinary study of China and a record of extracurricular achievement, community engagement, social responsibility, and leadership potential. The admissions information also distinguishes requirements for Mainland Chinese candidates and for candidates from China’s Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions, as well as international candidates.

Candidates apply through Yenching Academy’s online application portal, where each applicant creates an account and submits materials in English. English test scores must be sent directly to the Yenching Academy by the testing organizations, and the portal provides more details after an account is created.

• English proficiency test requirements apply differently by applicant category: international applicants whose native language is English, or who have graduated from an English-taught degree program are not required to provide an English proficiency test report.
• Applicants from China’s Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions (HMT) are required to provide an English proficiency test report even if they have attended or graduated from an English-taught degree program; without an English proficiency test report, they need to take English as a Second Language after enrollment at Peking University.
• For applicants from the Chinese Mainland, an English proficiency test report is a compulsory application material.
• International candidates must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport.
• Former citizens of the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan who have emigrated to other countries and are applying to Peking University as international students must present valid passport or citizenship documents dating from before April 30 of 2021, along with proof of cancellation of Chinese nationality.
• All students and alumni of Partner Universities must apply through their home university’s internal pre-selection process before submitting their application to the Yenching Academy.
• Candidates from China’s Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions must apply through the Yenching Academy application portal and also complete a supplementary application through the Peking University Graduate Admissions website.

1. Apply through Yenching Academy’s online application portal.
2. Create an account on the Yenching Academy admissions portal.
3. Submit the required materials in English: completed online application form, personal statement, Statement of Research Interest, Curriculum Vitae, official transcript(s), Diploma(s) or Certificate(s) of Enrollment, and two academic letters of recommendation.
4. Provide English proficiency information as required for the applicant category, following the listed minimum scores and score-submission rules (including sending scores directly from testing organizations and choosing “Yenching Academy of Peking University” as the designated recipient).
5. If applying as a student or alumnus of a Partner University, complete the home university’s internal pre-selection process before submitting to the Yenching Academy.
6. If applying from China’s Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions, submit via the Yenching Academy application portal and complete a supplementary application through the Peking University Graduate Admissions website.
