Career Educator Certificate
Introduction
Career Educator Certificate is a program taught at Douglas College, Canada. Intake: February. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (5 courses; each course takes place over a three week period.) options.
The Career Educator Certificate (CEC) provides a stepping stone for teachers or coordinators of career education to develop knowledge and skills that support effective career connected learning for all students within the K-12 system. Douglas College frames the CEC as especially valuable for educators with limited experience in teaching career education courses, educators seeking to extend and deepen their knowledge and skills, and coordinators and administrators supporting teachers with career education aligned to provincial curriculum and practice.
Douglas College structures the CEC as five 15-hour courses across five topic areas. Each course runs over a three week period and is delivered through an interactive, facilitated asynchronous learning format using discussions and reflective assignment tasks that can be applied to individual teaching contexts. Douglas College states that all courses are taught by a National Certified Career Development Professional who is also a qualified teacher.
Douglas College says successful completion equips participants to deliver and evaluate career education courses in a range of educational settings. Douglas College also states that you must begin with “CDGI 600 – Talking About Careers,” and that after taking CDGI 600 you may take any individual course without completing the full certificate, with CDGI 600 remaining a prerequisite for the courses.
