Introduction

Environmental Science and Technology is a Bachelor program taught at Dublin City University, Ireland. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (Four Years) options.

Dublin City University’s BSc in Environmental Science and Technology builds a scientific core across biology, chemistry, physics, and maths, with modules that focus on environmental science and practical analysis. Students study topics such as Pollution and the Biosphere, Environmental Analysis, Environmental Monitoring and Data Analysis, and Water and Waste Management. Throughout the degree, the course includes field trips and lab work, including Chemistry, Physics, Biology Laboratories and Environmental Chemistry, Biotechnology and Physics Laboratories.

Teaching is delivered full-time over Four Years, with lab modules each year and project work in Year 4. The course includes a nine-month work placement in the third year (INTRA), plus opportunities such as study abroad and the module Towards Zero Carbon. Students also complete work that includes Visualisation and Validation of Lab Data and a final Project, supported by Environmental Ethics and a Literature Review.

DCU states that graduates typically go into environmental research and environmental protection roles, including research scientists, pollution control, waste management, wastewater treatment, water management, and environmental analytical roles. The course lists employers and organisations that include County Councils, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Enrich Environmental Ltd, Covanta, Irish Water, Teagasc, IAS Laboratories, and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
