Introduction

Physics with Astronomy is a Bachelor program taught at Dublin City University, Ireland. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (1 + 3 Years) options.

Dublin City University’s BSc Physics with Astronomy trains you in physics and mathematics, with foundations in Space Science and Astronomy. The degree covers advanced topics including Stellar Physics, Astronomical Techniques, and Cosmology, plus the theory of multi-wavelength observations. You learn through lectures and lab work that explore sources using real X-ray data collected by the XMM-Newton observatory.

Teaching includes labs, and the course includes an INTRA work placement. In the later part of the programme, you complete a challenge-based astronomy-related project under the guidance of professional astronomers. The programme also builds programming skills and practice in data analysis, and it supports communication skills through independent work and teamwork.

DCU lists typical graduate careers in research and development in astronomy/astrophysics and space science, image processing and analysis (for example for medical physics companies and organisations), and statistical analysis. The degree also satisfies the Teaching Council of Ireland subject curricular requirements for teaching physics at post-primary level upon successful completion.
