Introduction

MSC Nuclear Energy Engineering 1 is a Masters program taught at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. Intake: August. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (2 years (120 ECTS credits)) options.

The MSc Nuclear Energy Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology provides comprehensive coverage of nuclear engineering. Students study the physics, technology, and safety of nuclear reactors and power plants, with an emphasis on radiation protection and the design, operation, and management of nuclear facilities.

The programme includes mandatory courses covering physics, technology, safety, thermal-hydraulics, radiation protection, and dosimetry. Students personalise their studies through electives that cover topics such as next-generation reactor design, nuclear fuel cycle management, Monte Carlo and numerical methods, reactor and power plant simulations, radiation damage in materials, and the chemistry and physics of nuclear fuels.

Teaching uses a flipped classroom approach, interactive computer-based assignments, video-recorded lectures, and dedicated e-books. The programme incorporates the APROS simulator and includes field trips, including hands-on training at the VR-1 research reactor in Prague. Students carry out master’s degree projects at companies including Westinghouse, Studsvik, Vattenfall, OKG, Forsmark, and Vysus Group.
