Introduction

MA Mathematics at EPFL (EDMA – Mathematics) is a doctoral program that supports mathematical research across pure and applied areas. Research topics include algebra, analysis, geometry, probability, and topology, as well as applied work such as numerical analysis, optimization, statistics, and data science. The program frames mathematics as both a language for ideas and a precise way to reason about the world, from theory to real-world applications.

As a doctoral student in EDMA, you join an environment with thesis directors and faculty members, including recipients of the Fields Medal. The program includes advanced courses and training for doctoral candidates, with close mentorship. You are expected to develop and pursue your own original research and collaborate across disciplines, including through opportunities connected to conferences and research visits described in former student experience.
