Art History
Introduction
Art History is a Bachelor program taught at Christian Brothers University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
Art History (Specialization) is the study of art and architecture as expressions of human creativity and as historical documents that help students understand cultural and social value. The program builds understanding of broad historical traditions in the visual arts and provides specialized knowledge in one or more areas of art history. Students practice critical thinking and logical reasoning through written and verbal analysis of the visual arts.
Courses are taught in two smart classrooms in the Art and Design West building. Students use an art history resource room with research materials including videos, books, magazines, and a digitized image database. Learning includes required visits to museums and cultural institutions for assignments, access to the University Museum collection of cultural objects, and optional enrollment in an internship course.
Graduates are prepared for careers in museums, art galleries, cultural institutions, and academia. The program also supports further study in graduate school. Students can present their research at the annual Art History Symposium. Some graduates also pursue a certificate in museum studies at SIUE.
