Introduction

Geology major is a Bachelor program taught at Colgate University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Geology major at Colgate University studies Earth systems and the environment, including Earth materials and planet-scale processes using Earth-observing data from satellites, geophysical instruments, and models. Coursework explains how ecosystems and environments are shaped by plate tectonics, volcanism, mountain building, climate change, evolution, and human activity through time.

The major includes required GEOL courses: GEOL 190 and GEOL 190L, GEOL 201 and GEOL 201L, GEOL 215 and GEOL 215L, GEOL 225 and GEOL 225L, and GEOL 235 and GEOL 235L, plus five additional full-credit GEOL courses. The two required 400-level courses provide a capstone experience with hypothesis testing, data collection and/or analysis, literature review, and a final project. Students complete additional courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, or physics.

Modules

  • GEOL 190 - Evolution of Planet Earth
  • GEOL 190L
  • GEOL 201 - Mineralogy and Geochemistry
  • GEOL 201L
  • GEOL 215 - Paleontology of Marine Life
  • GEOL 215L
  • GEOL 225 - Sedimentology and Surficial Processes
  • GEOL 225L
  • GEOL 235 - Tectonics and Earth Structure
