Bachelor's in Field Biology

Field Biology is a Bachelor program taught at Defiance College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Defiance College offers Field Biology as an option within its biology major for students interested in field work. Biology is the broad study of organisms, covering areas such as genetics, evolution, ecology, and more focused fields including botany, entomology, ornithology, and herpetology. The program includes a field biology focus so students can direct their biology study toward activities in the field.

Students can use a dedicated computer study area and gain access to the 250 acre Thoreau Wildlife Sanctuary. The program also provides one-on-one training in laboratory techniques and instrumentation. Students receive one-on-one training intended to support graduate school applications and workforce preparation. A Mikula-Frey travel endowment provides free travel to scientific conferences as part of the program.

By the completion of the program, students develop skills that include implementing the scientific method to generate hypotheses, execute data collection, infer results from data, and summarize findings. Students also synthesize findings from published scientific literature using appropriate citations and references. Learning outcomes include evaluating concepts in microbiology, cellular biology, genetics, molecular biology, and organismal-level biology, and discussing biology’s relationship to natural sciences, technology, society, global perspectives, and ethics.

The minimum requirements for admission in Field Biology at Defiance College for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:

• program specific academic requirment set by Defiance College.
• English Language OR any other language requirments as set by Defiance College as pre-requiste for admission in Field Biology.
