Pre-Veterinary Medicine

Pre-Veterinary Medicine is a program taught at Graceland College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Pre-Veterinary Medicine at Graceland College is a pre-professional track for students interested in pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. Students are advised to major in Biology and to review the admissions requirements of the veterinary schools they plan to apply to. The recommended curriculum adds science and health courses intended to support preparation for veterinary school and success in that admission process.

The track includes coursework in Molecular Genetics with Lab, Human Anatomy with Lab, Human Physiology with Lab, Biochemistry I with Lab, Immunology, Cell and Cancer Biology, Nutrition, and Calculus I. Students can also take BIOL3120 Internship in Biological Sciences, which is a faculty-developed internship arranged by the student and graded Pass/Fail. The program is offered at the Lamoni Campus.

Students are encouraged to consider internships or volunteer experiences at local veterinary hospitals or clinics during summers to gain practical experience. Many students take the GRE exam (or MCAT for some schools) and begin applying to veterinary schools using the VMCAS application service, with early application being strongly recommended.
