Self-Designed Studies
Introduction
Self-Designed Studies is a Bachelor program taught at Heidelberg College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Self-Designed Studies major lets students build a curriculum that fits career goals. Students work with two faculty mentors to design the major and coursework, which must be approved by the Provost. Majors complete either the General Education Requirements or the Honors Curriculum. The program includes learning outcomes focused on critical thinking, synthesis across at least 3 prefixes, and speaking and writing skills.
Required major work includes SDN 370: Internship, SDN 371: Independent Research Project, or SDN 372: Study Abroad or Study Away. Students also complete SDN 400: Senior Capstone Experience. Self-designed coursework is determined by the student and two mentors, then approved by the Self-Designed Studies Committee, with a plan showing vertical progression to higher level courses.
