Introduction

Economics is a Bachelor program taught at Occidental College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The Economics major at Occidental College helps you analyze how societies manage limited resources and how decisions shape opportunity and growth. You study markets, trade, economic development, and how inequality, policy, and the environment affect human outcomes. Coursework builds writing, communication, and quantitative skills, and you can focus on one of five areas: Business Economics, Computational Economics, Economics of Public Policy, Economics of Social Justice and Inequality, or Mathematical Economics.

Economics students have research options through the Undergraduate Research Center, including independent and collaborative research. Many faculty also offer directed research classes. You can work with faculty during the academic year or summer, apply for Young Fund or Schwartz Fund grants, and present research at conferences. The program also includes hands-on experience through the Blyth Fund, which allows students to manage a real investment portfolio.

The major connects economic thinking to real-world challenges and prepares you to evaluate ideas critically and apply economic insight for business, public policy, finance, or law. Opportunities described include internships through the Kahane UN Program, plus funded opportunities supported by Young Fund and Schwartz Fund.
