Bachelor's in Geology
Introduction
Geology is a Bachelor program taught at Occidental College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
The Geology major at Occidental College helps you understand how the Earth works, including shifting plates, climate change, earthquakes, climate records, minerals, water resources, and environmental change. You study Earth’s structure, surface processes, and climate history, and you practice collecting evidence, interpreting data, and building clear scientific arguments.
Learning includes fieldwork, lab analysis, and research. You train in the lab and the field using tools such as chemical analysis, microscopes, GIS mapping, and sediment sampling. Faculty guide hands-on lab and field work, and students may present at conferences, publish papers, or complete field camps and funded summer research through the Undergraduate Research Center.
You can focus on an environmental science concentration within the geology major. Geology also offers options to study abroad or join Oxy-led courses in multiple countries, and you can connect geology with mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science. Geology graduates commonly pursue careers in environmental consulting, hydrology, geothermal energy, and critical mineral exploration, or they continue with graduate study in Earth and environmental sciences.
