Bachelor's in Art
Introduction
Art is a Bachelor program taught at Pitzer College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
Pitzer College’s Art major leads to a Bachelor of Arts and treats art as an interdisciplinary laboratory. Students connect studio practice with research, writing, and exhibiting, with coursework that supports environmental sustainability, intercultural understanding, community engagement, and personal expression. The major also emphasizes vocabularies, histories, theories, and philosophies of art.
The program is organized around an interdisciplinary core (six courses), two specialized tracks (three additional courses each), and a two-semester senior capstone sequence.
Students choose either the Studio Art track or the Critical Studies track when declaring the major, develop a plan that includes courses from both tracks for the core, and then focus on one track for the capstone work.
The capstone includes ART 189 PZ – Senior Seminar in Art and ART 199 PZ – Senior Projects in Art, developed with an advisor.
Art majors work closely with the Pitzer College Art Galleries through a close working relationship with the Art Field Group. The Studio Art track prepares students for studio-based practices, and the Critical Studies track prepares students for further work in areas that include art history, curatorial and museum studies, and art writing. Graduates can pursue roles including art historian, critic, curator, and other visual arts-related pursuits.
