Introduction

Economics is a Bachelor program taught at Pitzer College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The Economics major at Pitzer College studies how limited resources are used, theories of production and distribution, and how choices affect global economies. Students choose between two areas of concentration: Economics and Mathematical Economics. Coursework covers concepts, terms, and models from micro- and macroeconomics, and how to apply economic theory and methods to real-world economic problems.

Students complete required economics and statistics courses, plus econometrics and additional upper-level economics courses. The program also includes a Senior Seminar in Economics (ECON 198 PZ) taken at Pitzer in the fall of the student’s final year, and an honors option that includes a senior thesis. In conjunction with Claremont Graduate University, Pitzer offers an accelerated BA and MA in Economics in five years, with application in the fall of the junior year.

The program prepares students for careers in banking, finance, insurance, sales, management, or education. For graduate study, it suggests Mathematical Economics or a double major in Economics and Mathematics due to advanced math modeling needed for graduate-level studies.
