Bachelor's in Molecular Biology
Introduction
Molecular Biology is a Bachelor program taught at Pitzer College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
The Molecular Biology major at Pitzer College is a Bachelor of Arts program focused on how DNA is structured, how genes encode proteins, and how heredity works. Students learn foundational principles and findings of Molecular Biology through hands-on research, including developing hypotheses and designing experiments to test them.
The major includes research-intensive coursework and classes. Students take courses and conduct research with faculty from Pitzer and Scripps Colleges through the Department of Natural Sciences. Students can use labs, classrooms, offices, and a community greenhouse in the 65,000-square-foot Nucleus science building. The major requires successful completion of at least 15 courses, including a two-semester senior thesis option and one additional Biology lab course selected with the faculty advisor.
This major can lead to graduate studies, medical school, or professions in biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry. Molecular Biology majors are required to take courses from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. Students may choose among research groups within the Department of Natural Sciences.
