Bachelor's in Science, Technology and Society
Introduction
Science, Technology and Society is a Bachelor program taught at Pitzer College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
Science, Technology and Society (STS) is a Bachelor of Arts major at Pitzer College. You investigate how scientific ideas and new technologies are created, distributed, and used, and how they impact different parts of society. The major applies history, philosophy, and social science, including anthropology and public policy analysis, to understand the social and cultural impacts of science and technology.
The major includes hands-on experience with knowledge-making practices through lab science, math, or engineering coursework, plus coursework that treats science and technology as social institutions. You develop an individual interest in a technological controversy, policy problem, or application via a research paper and integrate major strands through a senior thesis, a senior integrative seminar, or a comparable capstone experience.
STS graduates work in science journalism, policy research, science education, design, business consulting, medicine, and law. The major requirements include three “science and technology practice” courses, “context and theory” courses, additional STS courses for disciplinary depth, and STS electives.
