Hospitality Management

Hospitality Management at Sinclair Community College includes instruction across food preparation, sanitation and safety, and the hospitality and tourism industry. Students study culinary theory and techniques, kitchen organization and operation, food preparation concepts such as weights and measures and recipe conversion, and practical table service through menu planning and table service practicum. Other modules cover kitchen chemistry, restaurant and lodging operations, housekeeping management, front office operations, and meeting and events topics such as contracts, set-up and breakdown, and event planning.

Course delivery includes a mix of classroom instruction and lab experience, with multiple modules listing specific lab hours per week. Students complete hands-on components such as cooking and preparation training, beverage management including mixology and glassware selection, and baking and barista-focused practicum modules that include structured lab practice. Certain modules require passing a national sanitation exam, and some kitchen lab courses have prerequisites tied to completing specific modules or holding a current ServSafe certification.
