Introduction

Communication, Media, and Screen Studies is a Bachelor program taught at Southern Connecticut State University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Communication, Media, and Screen Studies is an academic major that centers on how people communicate with one another, how media is used in communication, and what is said about media, with an emphasis on screen-based technologies. Students choose between two areas: Communication, Media, & Screen Studies (CMS) or Film, Television, and Media Production (FTMP). Both areas include learning about ideas and research in the discipline and gaining practical experience through course work and projects.

The major covers three areas. Communication focuses on communication theories tied to identity, personal interactions, and how organizations communicate, and students use communication theories in speaking, writing, and digital communication. Media emphasizes critical and creative thinking, analyzing and creating advertising and public relations content across media platforms, and designing messages aligned with goals, audience, and ethical standards. Screen Studies studies screen media’s history, institutions, theories, practices, and emerging trends.
