Bachelor's in Music Education
Introduction
Music Education is a Bachelor program taught at Susquehanna University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Music Education program at Susquehanna University prepares students to teach children and young adults. Students gain supervised experience teaching one-on-one and small groups in real pre-kindergarten through high school music classrooms. They also develop music skills and conduct and perform in bands, choirs, orchestras, and chamber music ensembles.
Course study includes music theory, history, composition, and the music of the world’s cultures, with an emphasis on training young musicians. Students also complete additional hands-on work in a community music program with a dedicated teaching lab space on campus. Performance opportunities include ensembles across vocal, instrumental, opera studio, chamber music, and keyboard performance settings.
The program is designed so students can earn their teacher certification within a set timeframe and begin a career in the classroom. Students may also continue into graduate school while using performance opportunities, including hour-long private lessons. Students receive lessons in their primary instrument or voice each semester and can attend professional music education conferences.
