Introduction

Applied Music BA is a Bachelor program taught at University of Idaho, USA. Intake: September. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years, 120 credits) options.

The Applied Music B.A. at the University of Idaho is an interdisciplinary major for students pursuing careers in music and another field. Students develop skills by creating, analyzing, and listening to music. Intensive courses in theory, history, and performance support musical development, while courses outside music build a foundation in the humanities and sciences. The degree is designed to be paired with other interests, and students choosing a secondary major are directed to select the applied music B.A. or B.S. based on that degree.

Admission requires an audition for the Lionel Hampton School of Music program. Hands-on learning includes an undergraduate practicum assistant role in music theory, aural skills, music history, and applied instruction, plus teaching through the Preparatory Division. Students perform in master classes, join one of the 30-plus large and small ensembles, and participate in the annual Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. Internships listed include the Disney All-American College Band and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
