Introduction

Environmental Science is a Bachelor program taught at Wisconsin Lutheran College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Environmental Science major at Wisconsin Lutheran College focuses on how biology, chemistry, and earth science intersect to address environmental issues. Students explore the relationship between humans, the environment, and each other from a Christian perspective. Course work includes studies involving soil and water quality, waste recycling, and air quality sensors.

Students work one-on-one with professors and can participate in faculty-guided undergraduate research. Research options include aquatic ecology projects in local and tropical watersheds and field research comparing native plants and invasive species for remediating wastewater. Students may also assist research on reducing phosphorus concentrations in effluent from constructed wetlands.

The program includes field research opportunities using the campus rain garden, the SPADE research plot, and an educational composting site. Students also may participate in research in local and global environments, including a long-term biological monitoring project on a coral reef in a Marine Protected Area, with other travel described for coral reef and habitat exploration. Graduates are prepared for careers in botany, conservation, and ecology.
