Karelia University of Applied Sciences Tuition Fee Scholarship

Karelia University of Applied Sciences provides fee-paying students scholarships based on performance in their studies. The university says the scholarship system applies to degree students from outside the EU/EEA who started an English-mediated degree programme at Karelia UAS on or after 1 August 2017 and have present enrolment status.

For bachelor’s degrees, Karelia UAS bases the award on credit accumulation and Finnish language proficiency. For master’s degrees, the award is based on credit accumulation only. The scholarship rules apply only within the set duration of the degree programme.

For bachelor’s degree students, a scholarship may be awarded in the autumn of the second and third academic year if the tuition fee for the following academic year or semester has been paid by the stated date, the student is registered as present, and at least 50 credits have been completed in the previous academic year. The Finnish language requirements are tied to course grades and the YKI test. For master’s degree students, a scholarship may be awarded in the autumn of the second academic year if the tuition fee has been paid by the stated date, the student is registered as present, and at least 30 credits have been completed in the first academic year.

• Scholarships are not awarded for studies exceeding the set duration of studies for the degree.
• Bachelor’s degree students: scholarship criteria are credit accumulation and Finnish language proficiency.
• Bachelor’s degree students: in the first academic year, Finnish proficiency at level A2.1 must be demonstrated by examination, with grade 3/5 in Finnish 2.
• Bachelor’s degree students: in the second academic year, Finnish proficiency at level A2.2 must be demonstrated by examination, with grade 3/5 in Finnish 3.
• Bachelor’s degree students: in the third academic year, Finnish proficiency at level B1 must be achieved in the YKI test.
• Bachelor’s degree students: at least 50 credits must be completed in the previous academic year.
• Bachelor’s degree students: only studies completed as a Karelia UAS degree student count toward the 50 credits.
• Bachelor’s degree students: replacement and inclusion of higher education studies completed before Karelia UAS degree studies do not count toward the 50 credits.
• Bachelor’s degree students: the tuition fee for the following academic year or semester must be paid by 31 July or 31 December, depending on the study start term.
• Bachelor’s degree students: the student must be registered as present for the academic year.
• Master’s degree students: scholarship criteria are credit accumulation.
• Master’s degree students: at least 30 credits must be earned by 31 July during the first academic year.
• Master’s degree students: the tuition fee for the academic year must be paid by 31 July.
• Master’s degree students: the student must be registered as present for the academic year.
• If the student is found guilty of misconduct in studies at Karelia UAS under the Degree Regulations, Karelia UAS may reject the scholarship.

• Bachelor’s degree students: 30% of the annual tuition fee paid in the beginning of the second year.
• Bachelor’s degree students: 20% of the annual tuition fee paid in the beginning of the third year.
• Bachelor’s degree students: 10% of the annual tuition fee paid in the beginning of the fourth year.
• Master’s degree students: 30% of the tuition fee in the second academic year.
• The scholarship is a tuition fee scholarship.

4. For bachelor’s degrees, meet the required Finnish language proficiency level and credit total for the relevant academic year.
5. For master’s degrees, complete the required credit total for the first academic year.

• Records showing completed credits in the degree programme.
