South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences Xamk Tuition Fee Scholarship

South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) runs this tuition fee and scholarship scheme for students who must pay tuition fees. Xamk states that the scheme applies to degree programmes starting in January or later, and that tuition fees are charged to students outside the EU/EEA in English-taught degree programmes.

The scheme is for bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes at Xamk. It includes an Early Bird discount on admission, a study progress scholarship, the Xamk Award for community activity in Finland, and a graduation award for Finnish language skills at B1 level in the YKI proficiency test. Scholarships awarded on admission and during studies are applied as tuition fee discounts for the following academic year, while graduation awards are paid to the student.

Xamk links the study progress scholarship to grade average, attendance and completed credits. The Xamk Award depends on points collected through approved activity in Finland, and work experience may count when it is carried out through an official organiser. Xamk says students who have been found guilty of deception or who have otherwise breached the order of the university of applied sciences and received a warning from the president cannot receive scholarships.

It does say that study progress and Xamk Award points are calculated per academic year, and that graduation awards are paid directly to the student.

• For degree programmes starting in January, the student must complete 27 ECTS credits during the first semester to qualify for the study progress scholarship.
• For the study progress scholarship, the student must have a grade average of 3.0 or higher.
• For the study progress scholarship, the student must meet the attendance requirement of 75% or more.
• For the Xamk Award, the student must first qualify for the scholarship based on study progress.
• For the Xamk Award, the student must collect enough Xamk Award points through approved activities.
• All Xamk Award activities must be completed in Finland.
• All Xamk Award activities must be carried out within an official association, organisation, club, or similar body.
• Independent activities without an official organiser are not accepted.
• For the work-experience component of the Xamk Award, the work must last more than four months, with a minimum average of 10 hours per week.
• For the work-experience component of the Xamk Award, the workplace must be located in the South Savo or Kymenlaakso region.
• For the graduation award, the student must achieve Finnish language skills at B1 level in the YKI proficiency test.
• Scholarships cannot be awarded to a student found guilty of deception or who has otherwise breached the order of the university of applied sciences and received a warning from the president.

• Early Bird scholarship: a 10% discount on the tuition fee paid upon admission.
• Study progress scholarship: a EUR 2,500 discount on the tuition fee for the following study year.
• Xamk Award: an increased tuition fee discount of EUR 300-900 for the following study year.
• Finnish language skills scholarship: additional reductions of EUR 500-1,000 on the tuition fee for the following study year by completing studies in Finnish language and culture.
• Graduation award for Finnish language skills at B1 level in the YKI proficiency test: EUR 3,000.
• Scholarships awarded upon admission and during studies are granted as discounts on the tuition fee for the following academic year.
• Scholarships awarded upon graduation are paid directly to the student.

1. Accept the offer of admission within the deadline stated in the admission notice if applying for the Early Bird scholarship.
2. Pay the tuition fee within the deadline stated in the admission notice if applying for the Early Bird scholarship.
3. At the end of each academic year, apply for the study progress scholarship if you meet the credit, grade average and attendance conditions.
4. For the Xamk Award, take part in approved activities in Finland, collect Xamk Award points, and apply when you have enough points.
5. For the Finnish language skills scholarship and the graduation award, complete the required Finnish language studies or YKI proficiency test condition as stated by Xamk.
