University of Eastern Finland Tuition Fee Scholarship

The University of Eastern Finland offers tuition fee waivers for students who pay tuition fees in its English-taught bachelor's and master's degree programmes. The university says the scheme is designed to provide partial support towards tuition fees, and it does not offer full 100% waivers through this programme.

The waivers apply to fee-paying students admitted to eligible UEF degree programmes. The page also lists an Early Bird discount for the first academic year, a 30% tuition waiver for later years based on academic progress, and Finnish Proficiency Tuition Waivers based on Finnish language study or proof of Finnish language proficiency.

For the 30% tuition waiver in later years, UEF awards the waiver to students who meet the credit requirement and, in programmes where it is available, requires a separate application after the first year. The Finnish Proficiency Tuition Waivers also require a separate application period after the student meets the eligibility criteria.

The page states that students must have sufficient personal funds to cover the remaining tuition fees and living expenses throughout their studies in Finland. It also says that students may receive a refund in some cases if tuition has already been paid and the conditions for a refund are met.

• For Finnish Proficiency Tuition Waiver B, the student must complete the required criteria on the basis of studies completed at the University of Eastern Finland during degree studies.
• For the temporary protection waiver, the student must have been granted temporary protection by the Finnish Immigration Service.
• For the temporary protection waiver, if the student has not yet received a decision, they may apply by showing that the temporary protection application is pending.
• For tuition fee exemption by residence status, the residence permit must be valid at the start of the academic year, 1 August.
• Tuition fees are not required if the applicant is a citizen of an EU member state, an EEA country, or Switzerland.
• Tuition fees are not required if the applicant holds a permanent residence permit card in Finland (type P permit).
• Tuition fees are not required if the applicant holds a continuous residence permit card in Finland (type A permit) based on grounds other than studying, subject to the stated exceptions.
• Tuition fees are not required if the applicant holds an EU residence permit card in Finland for third-country citizens with long-term EU resident status (type P-EU permit).

1. Review whether you are liable to pay tuition fees or exempt under the residence-status rules.
2. If applying for the Early Bird discount, accept the offer of admission and pay the tuition fee or first instalment by the deadline stated in the admission letter.
3. For the 30% tuition waiver in later years, complete the first academic year and meet the 55 ECTS requirement; apply during the separate application period after the first year.
4. For a Finnish Proficiency Tuition Waiver, apply during the separate application period after you have met the eligibility criteria.
5. For the temporary protection waiver, submit proof of temporary protection or proof that the application is pending, and send the decision to UEF as soon as possible after it is received.
