University of Oulu Tuition Fee Scholarship

University of Oulu runs a tuition fee scholarship system for continuing students. The award is tied to tuition fee liability and gives a tuition discount or waiver when the student meets the required study progress. The university says the scholarship remains as stated in the admission letter unless the minimum credit requirement is not met.

The scholarship applies to continuing students in specific bachelor’s and master’s programmes at the University of Oulu, including programmes in the Faculty of Education and Psychology, Oulu Business School, the Faculty of Technology, the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, and the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine. The page also lists that no tuition fee discounts are available for the Faculty of Medicine programme in Epidemiology and Biomedical Data Science.

Selection is based on study progress. To receive a tuition waiver or discount after the first year, the student must complete 60 credits in line with the approved personal study plan, including mandatory Finnish language studies where required. Faculty study services check eligibility; no separate application is needed. The scholarship can be received only once and cannot be transferred to another degree programme.

Support is given as a tuition fee waiver or discount for the next academic year or years, depending on the programme and admission cohort. If the minimum credit requirement is not met, the student must pay the full tuition fee for the next academic year. For some cohorts, the page also states that tuition fees and scholarship terms remain as stated in the admission letter during the student’s studies.

• For Faculty of Technology master’s programmes: 40% discount for the second year, with listed annual tuition fees reduced to 7,200 EUR, 6,000 EUR, 8,400 EUR, or 6,000 EUR depending on the programme.
• For Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering bachelor’s programmes: 30% discount for the second and third year, reducing the annual tuition fee from 10,000 EUR to 7,000 EUR.
• For Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering master’s programmes: 30% discount for the first year after continuation from the bachelor’s degree programme, and 30% discount for the second year after completing the required credits, reducing the annual tuition fee to 7,000 EUR.
• For Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine master’s programme Biochemistry: 15% discount for the second year, reducing the annual tuition fee from 12,000 EUR to 10,200 EUR.
• For students admitted in the 2025 cohort with a scholarship in the acceptance letter: cohort-specific scholarships and renewals listed by faculty, including 50% scholarships and fixed euro scholarships.
• For students admitted in the 2026 cohort: cohort-specific tuition discounts listed by faculty and programme.
• For the Faculty of Medicine programme Epidemiology and Biomedical Data Science: no tuition fee discount is available.
