CEEPUS Scholarships

The CEEPUS (Central European Exchange Program for University Studies) program offers CEEPUS scholarships for semester-long periods, summer schools, or short-term mobility, with the aim of establishing academic connections between the Central European region and offering opportunities to live and study in countries with academic cooperation. The programme provides a mobility option called network mobility and enables participation in research projects across at least three countries.

Applicants may apply at a Hungarian higher education institution if they are enrolled students or teachers at an accredited university/college in other CEEPUS member countries. Eligible mobility types include student mobility (Bachelor, Master, and PhD) with 1 semester (3–5 months), short-term student mobility (Bachelor and Master working on theses; PhD) with 1–2 months, teacher mobility with minimum teaching/supervising hours and a minimum length of stay, and freemover mobility when studying at a university without a CEEPUS network.

For network mobility, both the home and host institutions’ network coordinators need to support the application. For freemover mobility, CEEPUS freemover applicants must find and contact the Hungarian host university and obtain a Letter of Acceptance. Applications are submitted online via www.ceepus.info, using “My CEEPUS” and following the “Mobility Wizard” instructions.

• Citizenship/member-country eligibility: Applicants must be from CEEPUS member countries (Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia).
• Current role and institutional accreditation for eligibility to apply: Applicants must be an enrolled student or a teacher at an accredited university/college in one of the other CEEPUS member countries.
• Student grant prior study requirement: For a student grant, the applicant needs to have completed at least two semesters of their studies.
• Alternative citizenship rule: If the applicant holds different citizenship but is an enrolled student or a teacher in one of the member countries, the applicant is still eligible to apply.
• Exclusion based on studying/teaching location: If the applicant is a citizen of one of the member countries but studies/teaches in a different country (third country), the applicant is not eligible to apply.
• Home country study/teach restriction: Applicants may not receive a grant to study/teach in their home country (country of citizenship and country of residence).
• Double financing restriction: It is not allowed to receive a second mobility scholarship from other sources to cover costs for the same mobility activity, destination, and period (avoiding double financing).
• Second mobility scholarship restriction applies to receiving another mobility scholarship from other sources for the same activity/destination/period.
• Maximum duration limit for students: For students, the duration of the study period may not exceed a total of 10 months each for the BA and MA cycles.
• Additional requirement control: The home institution has the right to stipulate any further requirements for selecting the students/teachers to study/teach at a partner institution.

• CEEPUS grant amount: Scholarship holders receive their CEEPUS grant from the host country, and the amount is tailored to local living standards.
• Payment channel in Hungary: In Hungary, scholarships are paid through the host university.
• Timing and method: Further information about the method and timing of the payment is provided by the host university’s CEEPUS coordinator once the applicant is awarded a scholarship.

1. Get in contact: For network mobility, both the home and host institutions’ network coordinators need to support the application.
2. If applying as a CEEPUS Freemover, find and contact the Hungarian host university and obtain a Letter of Acceptance document from the host university.
3. Submit the application online: Submit all CEEPUS applications online via www.ceepus.info.
4. Use the application tool: Access “My CEEPUS” to log in, then follow the instructions in the “Mobility Wizard” to complete the first steps of the online application process.
5. Follow submission deadlines based on mobility type (network mobility for winter/first semester; network mobility for summer/second semester; freemover mobility for winter/first semester; freemover mobility for summer/second semester).
